BEGINNER TO IMPROVER WEEKEND

AT THE CARLTON HOTEL, TORQUAY

Another year has passed, as we have just come back from our 3rd Beginner To Improver weekend away and what a weekend it was!!

We spent the weekend at The Carlton Hotel in Torquay and although the weather was not as kind to us as it was the previous year, the weekend came and went with a bang!

FRIDAY:

We kick started the weekend in the evening with a "Spot" themed social. Every dance over the weekend had a brief reminder before it was danced to give confidence on the floor and that it did, as the dance floor was always very busy and we all danced our socks off!

We had a Golden Oldie Hour were we danced our old classic favourite dances of the past.  Also we had a game of Irish Bingo and BIG congratulations to Heather Fletcher for bagging the winnings on that one.

A quiz was to be had a well done to Team Cirencester for winning that one!

Also during the evening I taught a classic party dance called "Cheeseburger" ...... what a scream that was! Even managed to get my Dad up on the floor for that one ..... Go Daddy B!

SATURDAY:

After we refreshed ourselves with a few hours sleep and a good olde breakfast, we kick started the day with a workshop where the following dances was taught:

Dancing On The Ceiling By Debbie Hogg -

A great little AB dance to a track of the same name. With 1 little 4 count tag the dance finds you singing along

Be Happy Now

By Roy Verdonk & Sebastian Holtland -

A 32 count tag & re-start free dance to a cover version of Bob Marley's hit Don't Worry Be Happy by The Overtones. Be warned ...... It's another sing-a-long one!!

LET IT SWING BY JAMIE BARNFIELD (ME!)

I wanted to choreograph a new dance for the weekend and I just had to write one to this track ...... Let It Swing by Bobbysocks!

It's a 32 count 2 wall beginner level dance with 2 tags.

SO JUST DANCE DANCE DANCE

BY JOSE MIGUEL BELLOQUE VANE & GUILLAUME RICHARD -

Danced to this years Summer hit by Justin Timberlake called Can't Stop The Feeling. This is a 32 count 4 wall Improver Level dance. It has 1 re-start and 1 small tag. Great dance to a great piece of music.

SATURDAY EVENING ...

With another party night to be had ........

This time the theme was "When I Was Growing Up, I wanted To Be"

Again we danced the night away to all our favourite dances. Along with another quiz and team Cirencester putting in another win in the bag!

Prior to the evening starting, everyone filled out a form with their 10 ALL time favourite dances, here are the results (in order):

1) Until The Dawn

2) Tequila Boom Boom

3) Ticket To The Blues

4) Locklin's Bar

5) Making History

6) Little Red Book

7) Lipstick Powder & Paint

8) Coastin

9) Islands In The Stream (Last years No 1)

10) Big Blue Tree

And bubbling just underneath was Boogaloo.

Not forgetting the fancy Dress Competition. It's getting harder and harder to judge the fancy dress as everyone makes such an effort and I have to say everyone looked AMAZING. However we had to have the winners and BIG congratulations to:

3rd Place - Nancy Stocks

2nd Place - Inge Powell

1st Place - Carolyn Wood

I got to live my dream of going growing up to be a Red Coat as we finished the night off with party dances lead by me!!  Can't beat a little bit of The Music Man, The Birdie Song and the YMCA!! Thanks for joining in, It was just a FAB evening!

SUNDAY:

With little energy left but always enough for dancing we finished the weekend off with a re-cap workshop of all of the dances taught during Saturday's workshop

THANK YOUS ...

You!! -  Massive thank you to all the dancers who attended the weekend, some of you it was a first and most of you all it was your 2nd or 3rd weekend away with Boogie Shoes. These weekends just couldn't happen with you all. Yes I can organise it, yes I can teach the dance BUT it just wouldn't happen with you, so thank you for your continued support. You peeps really know how to party!

Mary Ravey - Thank you so much for teaching Be Happy Now. You did a great job.

Johnny O'Connell - Our resident DJ! He kept the tracks coming for us all to dance the night away.  I also extend my thanks to him as he is a real support in everything I do from classes, socials, weekends away and for just putting up with me with the run to all these events!

In all ...... a fantastic weekend was had by all.

I look forward to the next.
